Canadians with chronic illnesses need more flexible workplace rules

“Under Canada’s Employment Insurance System, these workers need to make a choice: to be either “in” the workforce, or “out” of the workforce. There are no provisions for half-time, part-time or episodic or cyclical reductions in workforce participation. As well, there is a lack of flexibility in other income support systems.” This article outlines the need for more flexible workplaces for Canadians living with chronic and/or episodic illnesses and discusses some much needed changes to the system.
